5 Ways to Balance your Root Chakra as it is unquestionably one of utmost importance, firstly because it’s the First Chakra and secondly, because all our foundations rest upon the earth. The universal ground for all that we do. Consequently, to connect with the body is to connect with the earth, thus grounded in the biological reality of existence.

Basically our bodies are the home of our spirit or soul. Situated at the base of the spine is the First Chakra. In other words the foundation for the entire chakra system. Furthermore, the First Chakra is associated with safety, security and solidity, with the result that little else can be accomplished without a strong rooted foundation. If to combat fear is to strengthen the Root Chakra, then to live in fear is to weaken it.

1. Crystals used to balance your Root Chakra

Obsidian – This is a strongly protective stone, forming a shield against negativity. To clarify, it provides a grounding cord from the Root Chakra to the centre of the earth, thus absorbing negative energies from the environment and strengthens in times of need.

Smoky quartz – Not only is this one of the most efficient grounding and anchoring stones but also it can raise the vibrations during meditation.

2. Journalling

Keeping a journal is a unique voyage. Whether you opt for a random piece of paper to jot down your thoughts, burn it after, or choose a notebook or laptop, the process is deeply personal. It’s essential to safeguard your journal as a private space, not meant for others’ eyes. If there’s a possibility that someone might stumble upon it, the fear of discovery may hinder your honesty in expressing your thoughts.

The following are examples of prompts that you can use to start your journal:

  1. Identifying Fears: Reflect on the specific fears that currently influence your thoughts and actions. What are you afraid of, and why do you think these fears have taken root in your mind?
  2. Root Causes: Dive deeper into the origins of your fears. Are they based on past experiences, future uncertainties, or internal insecurities? Try to trace the roots of each fear to gain insight into its underlying causes.
  3. Coping Mechanisms: Consider how you currently cope with your fears. Do you avoid confronting them, or do you actively seek ways to overcome them? Reflect on the effectiveness of your coping strategies and explore new approaches to managing fear.
  4. Empowerment: Imagine a version of yourself free from the grip of fear. What would your life look like? Write about the steps you can take to cultivate courage, resilience, and self-confidence in the face of fear.

3. Affirmations used to balance your Root Chakra

It is safe for me to be here.

I’m here and i am real.

I am centred and grounded.

The earth supports me and meets my needs.

I am connected to my body.

The Root Chakra relates to our right to be here, our right to have what we need to survive. With this in mind, we can never have to much grounding, in order to find our way out of flight or fight mode thus keeping us on high alert. Consequently causing dis-ease and stress.

4. Nutrition and Diet

If healing through eating foods is your thing, then you can eat yourself toward a balanced Root Chakra. So long as you eat red foods like root veg, red fruit, protein (red meat) and warm spices like ginger, garlic, cinnamon and nutmeg, you will indeed aid your body to balance your root chakra.

5. Creating an Altar

Surprisingly making an altar is not necessarily either a religious act or a pagan ritual, but rather a positive act in the 21st century. Henceforth this is particularly beneficial to our health and our body-mind-spirit connection. By connecting to the earth, we bring our base chakra into balance.

Some suggestions for your altar:

  1. Find a little spot in your house where you can place a cloth to form the base of your altar.
  2. With this intention, during your walks in nature, keep your eyes open for any gifts she offers you e.g. feathers, shells, as well as pebbles or seeds.
  3. Once in a while, gather wild flowers or herbs to place on your altar.
  4. Colour is equally important to balance your chakra and with this in mind you can place a red candle on your altar..

At this point, it may be strange, but with time your altar will be a place where you can spend time each day to meditate and nurture yourself.

Summing it up , the Root Chakra corresponds to the element earth, which is the ground for our roots. Human life is dependant upon a supply of energy. What’s more, our source comes from our roots that can be seen as the way our system plugs in to the larger system of the planet. As I have said the elements needed for physical survival come from the earth. Thus being in various forms e.g. the food we eat, the things we touch and see, the water we drink, the air we breathe as well as the sounds we hear.
